We quite like good food and here are some of our favourite places to visit.

Perranporth and Surrounds

The Watering Hole for the atmosphere and the sand between your toes. It is a beach bar so would expect nothing less.

Tywarnhayle Inn or as the locals say, the Tye has great classic pub food and they are right in town.

Country Pubs

While exploring country pubs our favourite is Miners Arms in Mithian. We love going for a lunch toastie and a cold beer. If you are in luck you will hear the clip clop of horses walking past.

The Smugglers Den in Cubert is equally fascinating and the history of the inn is a must read. Check out the old photos and history.

The Bolingey Inn is another lovely old country pub tucked away in the little hamlet of Bolingey.

Indian

Masalla Tandoori and Jaipur Indian Cuisine both offer great classic Indian dishes.

Ice Cream Treat

We love ice cream and Callestick Farm is our go to place. On a warm summers day there is no better place to gorge on quality ice cream.

St Agnes

The Tap House and The Peterville Inn in St Agnes are both very good and full of energy. At weekends they are both bursting at the seams.

Further up the hill is the St Agnes Hotel, a classic pub with a great location. Check out their website for pub quiz times.

For lunch bites we like the St Agnes Bakery, their scones are to die for. Buy a cream tea to go, sit on the bench outside, dig into your scones and indulge in the view.

The Sorting Office has the best coffee in town, the café girls are friendly and it’s a local’s meetup. If the café is full, which happens a lot, take your coffee and cake and go sit under the big tree across the road.

Trunk Deli is a beautiful little delicatessen where we like to pick up quality produce.

Across the street is the fabulous Shellfish Deli which cannot be missed.

For take away pizzas we love The Cornish Pizza Company.

Trevaunance Cove

At the Trevaunance Cove end of town you have another bunch of eateries and pubs to explore. The Driftwood Spars is a must. Down by the water’s edge is Verdant Schooners for great pizzas and craft beer.

Genki is the tiniest and cutest of little cafes and the food is great.

There are so many great places to eat out and this list does not cover them all.

What are our favourite things to do in Perranporth?

Perranporth Beach

Life in Perranporth is all about the golden beach and what a beach it is! The beach is 3 miles long when the tide is out. Why not go for a mooch and explore the Chapel Rock tidal pool. Chapel Rock is believed to have housed a chapel atop the rock but the workings of the Atlantic Ocean have by now eroded away what was there. Spot the black and white flag up at the top. It is the Kernow flag aka the Cornish flag.

Set yourself a target to walk to the other end of the beach. Explore the sand dunes and the long Marram grass. Investigate the rock formations and caves and do have a wild swim in the ocean along the walk.

Surf

Why not learn to surf while you are in town? There are plenty of shops that rent out all the surf gear and provide lessons for the ones who are not yet so confident.

Local Ice Cream and Cyder Farm

Treat yourself to some tip top quality ice cream. Our personal favourite is the locally produced Callestick Farm ice cream. You can also go and visit Callestick Farm which is close to town. Whilst visiting Callestick you will find another Perranporth gem, namely Healeys Cyder Farm and their superb Rattler cider.

Hiking

Even if you did not come to Perranporth with the intention of hiking – we strongly advise you to give it a try. As you gaze out over Perranporth Beach, pick a direction – the Southwest Coast Path runs from both ends of the beach. We suggest picking up the trail heading west and hike up to Cligga Head, the old mine workings where you sit down on the old ruins and enjoy the view.

If you still have some energy to spare, continue your hike westward to St Agnes. It will take 1-2 hours depending on your speed. Once in St Agnes you have a whole new village to explore. Take the bus back to Perranporth and ride on the top floor for the best view.

Golf

Perranporth Golf Club is rated amongst the top 50 in the country. You will be golfing among the sand dunes and challenging it is but what an experience!

Horse Riding

We like horses and what a better holiday memory than riding on the beach. Contact Reen Manor Riding Stables and get yourself booked in.

Perranporth Airfield

Up at Perranporth airfield you can have a go at parachuting, we can guarantee it’s the best view in town.

St Piran’s Oratory

For less adrenalin rushing activities why not find the St Piran’s Oratory buried in the sand dunes.

The Watering Hole

As the day draws to a close the lure of the Watering Hole will summon you. Perranporth’s most famous bar and the best beach venue in the country. If you are in luck there might even be a gig on so get partying.

We would be hard pressed trying to pick our favourite. Luckily there is no need too as you can have them both!

Perranporth

Perranporth has the beach which is probably one of the best in the country. All the beach activities you can imagine are on offer. It’s the classic British beach holiday. Think lazy days on the beach, fish and chips, seagulls trying to steal a chip or two, too much ice cream, buying a holiday t-shirt and so on.

Perranporth is a great for family holidays. There are plenty of activities to keep everyone occupied even on a rainy day.

If you manage to get bored, then you have all of Cornwall within a 45 min drive. A day out in Newquay, St Ives, Falmouth, Padstow? It is all doable.

St Agnes

St Agnes is a village full of old-world charm. Read up on Poldark and pay attention, you will notice that the inspiration for the books was drawn straight from Perranporth and St Agnes. How is this possible you may ask? Winston Graham the author of the saga lived in Perranporth for many years, and this is where he found the inspiration.

You must see Stippy Stappy, the grade II listed cottages climbing up the path from Trevaunance Cove to St Agnes. Tip, at the top end of Stippy Stappy is the St Agnes Bakery.

The St Agnes Church right in town is beautiful and do explore the cemetery too.

Go visit the St Agnes Museum for more information on the rich heritage.

Churchtown Arts will satisfy your cravings for beautiful gifts and artwork. Artist Celia Creeper has her studio to the rear of the shop and you can watch her work as well as purchase.

Little Feathers Gallery has the cutest jewellery and works by Artist Gary Hall can be viewed, commissioned and purchased. Bayliss the Shar Pei might even be in the shop if you are lucky.

A drive along the Beacon Drive, a short hike up to the St Agnes Beacon for stunning views. Pop into the little National Coast Watch Station. It is manned by volunteers, and they will happily give you an introduction to the work they do.

Drive or ideally walk down the Rocky Lane, start at the top and work your way down to Trevaunance Cove. Halfway down, the view is incredible.

Go for a beach walk, inspect the rock formations and cliffs, hunt for pretty sea shells,, watch the surfers. Pick up the Southwest Coast Path at Trevaunance Cove and hike to Chapel Porth which is on the other side of the Beacon.

On the hike to Chapel Porth you will pass the old engine house of Wheal Coates. At Chapel Porth, get yourself a hedgehog ice cream from the National Trust Café.

While down at Trevaunance Cove, try the craft beer made at Driftwood Spars Brewery. Pop into the St Agnes RNLI shop for some gifts. Walk back into town along the Trevaunance Road and marvel at the pretty cottages.
